DIAGNOSTICS

To successfully increase laboratory performance, it is important to choose a reliable partner that offers the breadth of diagnostic tests, instruments and information systems that streamline laboratory processes while concurrently ensuring accuracy and consistency. Through our partnership with Beckman Coulter, Leriva’s Diagnostics business unit offers an extensive range of best-in-class laboratory-solutions, along with a broad spectrum of diagnostic tests in Clinical Chemistry, Special Proteins, Immunoassays, Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis and Automation.

CLINICAL CHEMISTRY

Chemistry systems use electrochemical detection and chemical reactions with patient samples to detect and quantify substances of diagnostic interest (referred to as “analytes”) in blood, urine and other body fluids. Commonly performed tests include glucose, cholesterol, triglycerides, electrolytes, proteins and enzymes.

With a wide range of features, the Beckman Coulter chemistry platforms deliver low total cost of ownership supported by proven uptime, scalability and use of fewer consumables. Improved clinical effectiveness and patient care are achieved through a broad menu offering of Six-Sigma quality assays and consistent high rankings in reliability and service.

IMMUNOASSAY

Immunoassays are chemical tests used to detect or quantify chemical substances of diagnostic interest in a blood, urine or other body fluids. Immunoassay systems use antibodies as the central component in their analytical reactions and have the ability to detect and quantify very low analyte levels. Commonly performed tests assess thyroid function, screen and monitor for cancer and cardiac risk and provide important information in fertility and reproductive testing. Other tests are used to monitor critical factors associated with anemia, blood viruses and infectious diseases.

The capabilities of Beckman Coulter’s industry-leading Immunoassay systems allow laboratories to select a product with confidence, knowing they can adapt to changing work load requirements and testing needs. Combined with an extensive test menu, these systems can enhance lab efficiency by increasing productivity, improving patient health and reducing the cost of care.

HEMATOLOGY

Blood cell systems use principles of physics, optics, electronics and chemistry to separate cells of diagnostic interest and then quantify and characterize them. These systems allow clinicians to study formed elements in blood, such as red and white cells and platelets. The most common diagnostic test is a “CBC” or complete blood count, which provides information on from eight to 23 different blood cell parameters.

The Beckman Coulter hematology product line is structured to address the differing requirements of high, medium and low volume laboratories. Beckman Coulter’s hematology platforms usher in a new era in cellular analysis with unparalleled quality of results, innovative efficiency solutions and revolutionary scalability that address the needs of every lab.

MICROBIOLOGY

There are hundreds of types of bacteria and infectious agents, with new ones appearing suddenly. Through the preparation of cultures from specimens that come from an infected part of the body, whether it is an organ, skin, hair, or bone, microbiologists identify and classify various organisms and confirm medical diagnoses through laboratory testing. The quantitative measures of a bacteria’s resistance allows physicians to determine which specific antibiotics they should use to treat a patient and, perhaps more importantly, which ones they should not use.

Beckman Coulter’s Microbiology Systems guide critical patient decisions using proven accuracy, enhance workflow efficiency and support antimicrobial stewardship activities with automated antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) and rapid identification (ID) testing.

URINALYSIS

The primary role of the kidneys is to filter waste out of the blood, help regulate the amount of water in the body, and conserve proteins, electrolytes and other compounds that the body can reuse. Waste substances that are not needed are eliminated in the urine, traveling from the kidneys through ureters to the bladder and subsequently through the urethra and out of the body.

Urinalysis tests are used to check overall health, diagnose disorders such as urinary tract infections, kidney disease and diabetes, and to monitor medical conditions. A complete uranalysis test typically includes visual, chemical and microscopic examination of the urine.

Beckman Coulter’s selection of urine chemistry and microscopy instrumentation platforms significantly reduce the urinalysis laboratory's need for manual microscopic review and sample handling, thereby diminishing subjectivity and increasing test efficiency.

AUTOMATION

Automation involves the deployment of systems that minimize human intervention. With the deployment of automation systems, the key benefits include improved efficiency and safety of sample management, coupled with short and consistent turnaround times. By automating the key pre- and post-analytical steps, such as de-capping, centrifugation, aliquoting, sorting, recapping, storage and retrieval, Automation Systems help manage the increasing workloads and improve quality in clinical laboratories.

The Beckman Coulter Automation Systems expedite patient care and enhance laboratory efficiency through the delivery of rapid, consistent results that facilitate diagnosis and treatment—potentially improving patient care, emergency room times and patient/clinician satisfaction.
